Cadarache (FR): ITER Nuclear Reactor

Project name: ITER Nuclear Reactor

Contracting company: Fusion for Energy F4E

Client: Ansaldo Energia SPA

Type of work: Electrical installations

Location of work: Cadarache

Work start date: 2020

Project Description

Comes SPA in the South of France, in Cadarache, accompanied the start of assembly of the ITER experimental reactor, the gigantic machine born from an international collaboration of research centers, universities and industries from the European Union, Japan, the Russian Federation, the United States, China, South Korea and India. Importantly, Italy, with its research and industry, plays a leading role in the project and is directly involved in the assembly phase.

With a diameter of 30 meters and just as high, the ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) machine is the result of the work of 3,500 researchers from 140 institutes in 35 countries. The European Union contributes more than 50 percent in terms of funds and components, and Italy builds both 10 of the machine’s 18 superconducting magnets and the neutral beam accelerator that allows the fusion process to begin, thanks to the Prima (Padova Research Iter Megavolt Accelerator) laboratory.

President Vincenzo Cesareo: “We deploy our expertise on a showcase site in energy and research, on a global scale. Our teams are mobilized daily to meet the high requirements of the ITER project in terms of water and waste management and provision of environmental services.
