MOSE: Venice lagoon isolated from the sea

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, Infrastructure Minister Paola De Micheli, and Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese, July 10, 2020 at the artificial island in front of the Lido attend the start-up ceremony of the test where for the first time all 78 Mose floodgates of the three lagoon inlets were raised at the same time. The raising was completed at 12:25 p.m.: thus for the first time in its history, the Venice Lagoon was isolated from the sea.

Before the test, premier and ministers visited the control room from where the operation was kicked off. The premier declared, “The project will be complete in 2021 but we are ahead of schedule.” Conte then pressed the button for the raising of the 78 floodgates.

Dr. Vincenzo Cesareo President Comes SPA says, “It is really a boast for our organization to take part in the realization of such a strategic project. This is a great achievement that Comes SPA, in team with IDF and ABB, has won for Venice!”

The attention of the whole of Italy is on the completion of the city’s protection system and today the project sees its realization really one step away.

Comes Project Manager Francesco Gigante adds, “It is an incredible feat and we are proud to have made our contribution.”

It was a long and difficult journey in which we had to combine experience and new technologies with nature. It will certainly remain indelible in our memories and among our achievements,” concludes Operations Director Sante Montemurro.

Comes SPA, with pride, and guaranteeing the maximum safety of every resource, in every part of the world, once again, keeps its promises, honors its commitments and consolidates its experience with a unique work that will certainly serve as a lesson for new adventures.
