Comes invests 12 million euros in former Simi and Cemit plant

Futuristic project to enable maintenance of wind blade nacelles and production of electrolyzers. The facility will be powered by photovoltaic panels.

Destined to become a dusty relic of industrial archaeology, a plant of the former Simi Sistemi and Cemit in Taranto’s industrial area, unused for a dozen years, is being reborn for a future full of activity. The recovery operation is by Vincenzo Cesareo, owner of Comes and former president of Taranto industrialists The overall investment, which includes acquisition of the facility and renovation for new uses such as maintenance of wind blade nacelles and production of new technology electrolyzers, is 12 million euros. It is a plant located 200 meters from the steel plant, but with an ecological soul, diametrically opposed to the mammoth steel factory. ”

 

“We will power it with photovoltaic panels and hydrogen accumulators,” Cesareo says, ”there will be a gym for employees, a reading room, and our current headquarters will become an Academy. It will take a year and a half to finish the work and go into production.”

According to Salvatore Toma, president of Confindustria Taranto, “companies like Comes lead the way for business networks. That way we can have greater momentum. If we have business networks we can also participate in big projects.”

“This Comes project,” stressed Mayor Rinaldo Melucci,” is giving a very important signal to Taranto and to entrepreneurship. We can do good industry and important things. No one should impose anything on us. Instead, we are trying to make people understand that the companies that grow the most are those that have diversified activities, that do more development and research, and that have a sustainability component and sustainability balance sheet.”
