The Tavazzano Thermoelectric Power Plant covers an area of about 70 hectares.
The plant has an installed capacity of 1,140 MW and consists of two combined-cycle units using only natural gas: unit 5, 760 MW; unit 6, 380 MW.
In 2000, the plant was one of the first industrial sites in Italy to obtain ISO 14001 environmental certification and is also certified according to ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management systems.
The new project to upgrade the efficiency of the Tavazzano and Montanaso power plant involves the construction of a new, state-of-the-art combined-cycle unit (class H technology) that will flank the two existing units.
The new unit will have a net electrical output of about 800 MW and an efficiency of more than 62 percent.
Combined-cycle operation will also result in improved environmental performance, with a further reduction in atmospheric emissions (both mass and specific) and no increase in thermal impact on the Muzza Canal waters.
The project is in line with the goals of the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan regarding decarbonization and safety of the national electricity system.
President Vincenzo Cesareo: “We are very happy to affirm our experience with another project in the field of energy and research. Our teams are mobilized daily to meet the requirements of the project by ensuring the highest standards and confronting new technologies with very low environmental impact.”
